Personal Introduction

About Valerie

Portrait of Valerie Monti Holland

I grew up above a funeral home in South Philadelphia, which probably explains more about me than any qualification.

From a very young age, I watched my father take care of people at their most vulnerable — holding space, bearing witness, making something difficult a little more bearable. I didn’t have the words for it then. I do now.

That instinct — to be present with people in the hard moments, to help them find what they already carry — runs through everything I do.

I came to facilitation via applied theatre, sociodrama and three decades of working with people across every sector and on every continent. From women’s prisons to the United Nations. From boardrooms to the open air. From Sheffield to Mumbai, Geneva to Kansas City.

What I’ve learned is this: the answers are almost always already in the room. My job is to help people find them — through approaches that go beyond the talking, that make the invisible visible and the intellectual felt.

I live in Sheffield, a city built on seven hills, close to the Peak District. I cycle, I read, I write.

I am currently training as an End of Life Doula, because I believe that how we approach death shapes how we live — and that the conversations we avoid are usually the ones that matter most.

I am a facilitator, a coach, and a thinking partner for people and organisations who want to go deeper.

Overall Introduction to the Work

My work sits at the intersection of facilitation, coaching and systemic practice. Whatever the context, whether a team in transition, an organisation navigating change, or an individual seeking clarity, the approach is the same: go beyond the surface, work with what is actually there, and create the conditions for something real to shift.

I draw on sociodrama, action methods and experiential approaches that engage the whole person, not just the thinking mind. Rather than workshops that inform, I create experiences that transform. Rather than values displayed on walls, I put them in the room, literally in three dimensions, so organisations can see where they actually live, where they are absent, and what gets in the way.

This matters because culture and connection are not soft add-ons to organisational life. They are the conditions that determine whether any change, strategy or initiative survives contact with the real world, regardless of sector or industry.

I work with organisations, teams and individuals who are ready to go deeper, to ask the difficult questions, face the uncomfortable truths, and discover what becomes possible when people tell the truth together.

The work is rigorous. It is creative. And it is always, fundamentally, human.
